> NEWY SKATERS!
Newcastle City Council is planning for the future of skate spaces across the City. We welcome your input at any of the consultations. Come along and have your say.
When: Thursday 4 December 2008
Where: Multi-purpose Building (next to the netball courts)
National Park, Parry Street, Newcastle
Time: 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm
OR onsite at 4.00 pm at each of the following existing skate park locations:
WHEN WHERE
Monday 12 January 2009 Stockton (outside pool)
Tuesday 13 January 2009 Empire Park, Bar Beach
Wednesday 14 January 2009 Islington Park, Islington
Thursday 15 January 2009 Walker Fields, Elermore Vale
Friday 16 January 2009 New Lambton Park, New Lambton
Monday 19 January 2009 Grange Avenue, Maryland
Tuesday 20 January 2009 South Newcastle Beach
Wednesday 21 January 2009 Wallsend Park, Wallsend
Thursday 22 January 2009 Dangar Park, Mayfield
Friday 23 January 2009 Heaton Park, Jesmond
This is possibly the beginning of nothing but an 'audit' of local facilities that was promised 2.5 years ago when Mayfield was completed. NCC are so quick off the mark!
Then, they will fill in anything that is not being used to cut down on the maintenance budget of the facilties they are not maintaining anyway. They tried to recently shut the South Newy park and the kiddies and their supporters banded together and got it saved.
May I defer anyone who's interested to the extensive (apparent from volume of shared emails) work of Johnny Bogaerts and co. in coming up with a submission for a big arse regional facility in this tired old town.
haha deon yu pro hoe.
bottom line is all newcastle skate parks suck.
All the existing parks are shit house.
A real good park at bar beach or newy beach would be good for obvious reasons...
Just build us a descent park already.
please.
oath, time is of the essence Sylva
I find myself considering a move interstate all the time lately cause I am bored of all the parks around Newcastle. And another thing, why save Newcastle beach park, its vomit and deserves to be ripped down, everywhere else has got with the times, why not Newy
i noticed when they had the little "save newy skatepark" campaign, one of the other things on the flyer was also a "decriminalise graffiti" rally.
one would think that if you want the council to even think about building a decent skatepark in the area the last thing you want skating to be associated with is dumb shit taggers. there's been plenty in the papers lately about graffiti so the further we distance skating from that the better
the more parks the better, you guys need it badly should get together and push for it.

i cant believe the beach park hasnt been ripped down yet. its hardly skateable anymore. scumbag bikers have flattened down the coping to one thin flat piece of metal
bottom line is....no where in australia deserves a better park than newcastle. the talent thats come out of there with whats there atm is incredible, imagine if newcastle had a cairns or a frankston
rant over
