$250K SKATEPARK UPGRADE GRANT AWARD FOR BAIRNSDALE, EAST GIPPSLAND

It was with great pleasure that Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett announced on Monday 13th May 2019 that the Bairnsdale Skatepark will be upgraded to suit growing user group numbers with the support of a $250K grant award from the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

This funding will contribute to the East Gippsland Shire Council’s 2019/20 capital works project for the upgrade of this premier regional sporting facility, located within the grounds of Davison Oval on the Princes Highway in Bairnsdale that is specifically for use by skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX riders and In-line
skaters.

After gaining community feedback and conducting user-group workshops, the Skatepark has been redesigned to provide for all skill levels from beginner to advanced, and include a fully enclosed bowl, street course with hips, banks, ledges, ramps and stairs, with conversion of the current slab to an open plaza area.
The redevelopment will be part of a multi-functional civic space for events such as festivals and temporary installations. Public amenities including furniture, rubbish bins, drinking fountains, lighting, shade, shelter and adjacent landscaping will also be installed as part of the works.

The State Government has invested over $630 million in community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria since 2014. ‘Sports facilities like skateparks are so important to Gippsland communities, and we’re proud to be supporting them with the modern, safe facilities they deserve’, says Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett.
